Do you want to get involved?

Do you like to help out? Do you like outdoor activities? Do you like teamwork?
Has visiting our website made you want to get involved in a search and rescue group and become a qualified searcher?
We have published an information kit for people who want to join a search and rescue group. It is important to note that people must be aged at least 18 years old to be deployed on a search operation. The age of individuals upon joining a group, however, is a matter for the group and not for the AQBRS.
We hope that reading this document will help you make an informed decision.

How to find the group that suits you best?

In Quebec, the different volunteer search and rescue groups are all independent of each other. Each of them is administered differently and the ways of doing things may vary from one organization to another.
Some groups focus their activities on search and rescue while others are also involved in different aspects related to civil security. Among our teams, some have specialized in a particular field of activity: mountain biking, canine teams, telecommunications, etc. There is something for every taste.
All member groups of the Association have one goal in common: to work together to find a missing person.

As the way each group works is different from one organization to another, it is important to ensure that the search and rescue group you wish to join meets your expectations.
Our groups are divided into 10 districts to correspond to the regional division of the Sûreté du Québec, with the aim of facilitating the deployment of volunteers.
Here are some questions to ask:
- Where is the group located?
- Where are the meetings held?
- What are the annual fees?
- How much does the training cost?
- How frequent are the meetings?
- What equipment will you need and what are the costs?
- Do members wear a uniform and what is the cost?
- What are the group's expectations of its members?
- What are the activities other than search and rescue operations?
- What is the registration period?
Joining a new group
If you are part of a group already involved in search and rescue and you believe that your volunteer organization can be an asset to us, you can join the AQBRS. It is also possible to form your own group.
