Use of volunteer dog teams

In addition to meeting the standards of ground researchers, our dog handlers put a lot of effort into ensuring quality service from our canine teams. Training an operational canine team is a long-term commitment that requires availability, discipline and rigor.

Our standards are particularly demanding. The teams are mainly trained for research in forest environments. On the other hand, several of them also agree to extend their expertise to searching for drowning victims, human remains, avalanches and rubble.

Engaging in the training of a search and rescue dog represents a demanding commitment, with no guarantee of mobilization.

In order to inform people interested in forming a search and rescue canine team, the AQBRS recently published an information kit which aims to let you know the extent of the commitment of our dog handlers.
